Our Retirement Reality
We are all unique. Our differences are vast and we don’t always agree. However, in many ways we are also similar. Most of us want to retire. If retirement is a focus for so many, or maybe has become an American tradition, why do so many fail? Why do I continue to read statistics such as these?
- 33% of Americans have saved nothing for their retirement.
- 70% of Americans retire with less than $50,000 saved.
- 95% of Americans haven’t saved enough during their 40 years of work to pay for their 20 years in retirement.
Do we fall short because we have unreasonable goals? Do we fall short because our plans failed? The reality is that our lack of awareness, lack of planning and lack of preparedness is creating our new Retirement Reality.
Financial success does not come without intention. To be intentional, I feel we need to understand where we are and where we are headed and the consequences of every financial decision we make. We cannot make the necessary or appropriate decisions without knowing our circumstances today.
