Confidence

Confidence!

Confidence is often our best friend in competition, sports, or being a businessman. When can confidence be a problem? When we’re investing!

If our confidence in investing is centered on markets, this is troublesome. We will surely lose if we think we’re smarter than the market. If we believe we can outthink or out time the market, then we are just gambling, and at some point, no matter our short-term results, we will likely pay a tremendous price for this long term.

Suppose our confidence is based on a long-term, academically proven strategy. Then, that confidence is built on the probability of success. These truths endure time.

Overconfident people make mistakes that cost them millions, but because of their confidence, they still believe doing it themselves is best. Be careful that your worst enemy is not looking at you in the mirror. You never know what you don’t know! You never see what you can’t see until it is too late!

If you want to gamble, go to Vegas; if you want to invest, find an advocate/coach and follow a proven process that puts allocation, diversification, risk tolerance, and portfolio structure on your side. Find confidence in facts, not stories of someone who will make money from you losing, trading, or being nervous. Emotional decisions make Wall Street money. Emotional decisions do not make you money.

So, let’s build our future on the confidence of a well-structured plan, portfolio, and a path we can follow to success based on facts!

Let’s build our financial confidence and future on proven processes and strategies.

Confidence, in fact, is the best strategy for a better tomorrow with less worries!

Sincerely,

WAYNE VON BORSTEL, CFP®, MSFS, ChFC®, CLU®
